New attempts to stop bullying in schools
(2009-11-20)
(wfcr) - In schools, there are the bullies, and the bullied, and educators and parents are no longer turning a blind eye as cruel adolescent acts are leading to persistent emotional trauma and even death. Last school year 11-year old Carl Joseph Walker Hoover -- an honor student who was repeatedly taunted at a charter school in Springfield -- killed himself. This week his mother urged Massachusetts lawmakers to require schools to respond more aggressively to bullying among children. Nearly a dozen bills are under review, but as WFCR's Jill Kaufman reports, some students and educators aren't waiting for Beacon Hill.
