Down Economy Down on the Farm
Michigan farmers had a chance to meet with the nation's top Agriculture official today.
US Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack spoke to a group of about 200 farmers at a public forum near Charlotte. Vilsack sympathized with Michigan's farmers finding it hard to stay afloat in the current economy.
"It has been a very difficult road the folks in Michigan have had to travel," says Vilsack, "And, one of the reasons I'm here, is to recognize that, and to tell you that we understand and appreciate some of the pain that you have."
Vilsack pointed out there are numerous programs to aid farmers in the president's economic stimulus plan.
But, several farmers complained not enough is being done to promote and grow smaller agri-businesses. © Copyright 2012, Michigan Radio
