MA Latino Chamber of Commerce Questions Casino Regions
(wfcr) - The Massachusetts Latino Chamber of Commerce is among those questioning the design of Governor Patrick's proposed casino legislation, which includes licensing a casino in western Massachusetts, but the legislation places Worcester county in the region, along with Hampden, Hamsphire, Franklin, and Berkshire counties. Renaldo Gonzales is legal counsel to the Massachusetts Latino Chamber of Commerce. He says with the addition of Worcester county, the casino for the "western region" could be in central Massachusetts.

Administration spokeswoman Kofi Jones says Patrick is sensitive to the concerns, made public at a protest in Springfield Wednesday. She says the regions were determined based on geographic economies and population. Western Massachusetts is home to a large Latino population, which Gonzalez says could directly benefit from the many jobs a casino would bring to the region.
