MARTA Set to Vote on New General Manager
(WABE) - Community leaders hope that the dream of regional transit in metro Atlanta will become a reality under MARTA's next general manager. Today, MARTA's Board is expected to approve the appointment of Beverly Scott to that post.

Scott heads the Sacremento Regional Transit District in California. If she comes to Atlanta, she'll be taking the reigns at a time when county leaders are more inclined toward transit cooperation than ever.

Sam Olens, Chair of the Atlanta Regional Commission and the Cobb County Board of Commissioners, hopes she'll leverage that momentum:

OLENS: There's really a great opportunity to continue what's happened the last couple of years, where not only Atlanta, DeKalb and Fulton are at the table, but the whole region is at the table to promote additional transit.

Olens says the next general manager will also face her share of challenges, such as limited financing, and the question of how to win back riders who left MARTA when it modified its schedule.
