(wnpr) - Democratic leaders of the Connecticut's House gathered in Bridgeport Wednesday to back one of their own - Representative Chris Caruso - for mayor.

On September 11th, Democratic voters in Bridgeport choose between two veteran state legislators who will be the next mayor of Connecticut's largest city. The endorsed Democrat, Senator Bill Finch, says representative Caruso is good at throwing rhetorical bombs but not at building consensus. House Speaker Jim Amann says Caruso's reputation for fighting corruption is well-earned, and is just what the city needs, while
Caruso says he has many friends in the legislature willing to help out the city

Bridgeport has been plagued by corruption scandals in recent years, with a former mayor and state senator in prison for bribery and racketeering, and the outgoing mayor John Fabrizi having admitted doing cocaine while in office.
