Mumbai native at UMASS says many are frustrated with government of India

Nikhil Malvankar, a doctoral student in physics at UMASS Amherst came to western New England from Mumbai in 2004. His family home is about a mile from one of the terrorist attack locations in India's largest city, where last week more than 185 people were killed.

A "New South", through the eyes of a native come north

As a young white woman growing up in Lynchburg, Virginia, Adin Thayer says she witnessed great racial divide. The 61 years Northampton, Massachusetts resident returned to Lynchburg as a campaign worker during the election season. She says the trip brought her back to 1962, her freshman year in high school, when desegregation first began and two African American students were enrolled at her school, among 2000 white students.
