Now she's written a book entitled "Makepeace: The Roots of American Liberty" -- a 308 page historical narrative set between the years 1659 and 1667. In Part One of our interview, du Nord chronicles the adventures and drama of the people who settled along the Annemessex and Manokin Rivers on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay - when religious tolerance flourished among people of many different backgrounds.
Eastern Shore Focus - Show # 77: The Housing Market Collapse As the nation continues to navigate out of the current housing crisis, one governmental organization is providing opportunities to assist struggling homeowners across the country and here on the Delmarva Peninsula. Eastern Shore Focus - Show # 74: The Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge The Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) was originally established in 1943 to provide a safe habitat for migrating birds - but has become home to more than 320 species of wildlife, including the famous Chincoteague ponies. We'll talk with U.S. Fish and Wildlife representative Michael Dixon about the Refuge and his agency's role as its caretaker. And we'll also hear from a long-time volunteer of the refuge.
Eastern Shore Focus - Show # 73: The Deaf Driver Visor Card A routine traffic stop may not turn out to be so routine for those in the deaf community - or for those law enforcement officers who do not know they may be pulling over a driver with hearing loss. To help prevent any tragic misunderstandings from occurring, the Maryland Sheriffs' Association (MSA) has developed a Deaf Driver Visor Card. We'll talk about this visor card with Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis and Ms. Sherrie Lister, an interpreter for the deaf.

Eastern Shore Focus - Show # 70: Steamboat Discovery / Sturgis Museum On this edition of Eastern Shore Focus, we'll pay a visit to the Sturgis One-Room School Museum in Pocomoke City, Maryland. It's the only African-American one-room school in Worcester County that still survives intact today. And it lies situated just down the street from the Delmarva Discovery Center - where we'll also learn about a new replica steamship called the "Steamboat Discovery."
Eastern Shore Focus - Show # 69: The DTV Transition - Take 2 If you've been paying attention to the news or TV, you're probably well aware that television in the United States is going to switch to digital sometime this year. But if your TV isn't ready for the transition - and you don't have cable or satellite service - then on June 12, 2009, your favorite TV stations are going to disappear. Shermaze Ingram, of the National Association of Broadcasters, will help explain what listeners need to do to get ready for the new transition deadline.
