UMES to mark 122nd birthday PRINCESS ANNE, MD. (AP) (wesm) - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore will mark the 122nd anniversary of its founding with a weeklong celebration.

The university's birthday is September 13, and a worship service will be conducted on September 14 at 11 a.m. at Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Princess Anne. The UMES gospel choir will perform.

The Founders' Week convocation and summer commencement is scheduled for September 16 in the Ella Fitzgerald Performing Arts Center.

Later that day, an outdoor concert featuring the UMES concert and gospel choirs plus with the UMES Jazz Band will be conducted on the lawn by the center. Fireworks will follow.

And the annual Celebrity Golf Classic will be played September 17 at GlenRiddle Golf Club in Berlin.

Founded as Princess Anne Academy, the historically black university has more than 200 full-time faculty and 4,000 students.
