Police search for man accused of assaulting trooper
(2005-07-11)
(wesm) - State Police are looking for a 23-year-old
Maryland man who allegedly assaulted an off duty trooper.
The incident happened around 6:30 Saturday night in a parking
lot near a service station on Route 13 in Odessa.
The trooper tried to question Daryl Slate, who was traveling
through the lot, but after being stopped, a physical altercation
ensued with the trooper taking the car keys before the struggle.
Slate then took a spare key, started the car, and attempted to
escape, but the trooper tried to stop him.
The car then picked up speed dragging the trooper about 10 to 15
feet before the trooper let go sustaining cuts to his right wrist
and elbow.
Police say Slate, who is from Elkton, Maryland, could be charged
with assault, resisting arrest and other charges.
