Former Olympian Meissner Skates At Haiti Benefit
(2010-02-01)
(wesm) - Former world and U.S. champion skater Kimmie Meissner took to the ice in Baltimore at a benefit for earthquake victims in Haiti.

Meissner skated Sunday in the Ice to Water benefit at the Mount Pleasant Ice Arena, performing a routine to Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl." The arena is where the 20-year-old Meissner started skating at age 6.

Recreation and Parks officials Bob Wall said the benefit may become an annual event, allowing the community to stay involved in the recovery effort.

Meissner is not participating in this winter's Olympic games in Vancouver. She withdrew in October from two Grand Prix events because of knee problems.
