Brief Synopsis:

In Part 1 of this two-part series featuring NASA's Wallops Flight Facility (WFF), we got to take a behind-the-scenes look at some of the daily operations going on at Wallops - including some of the projects Wallops is working on to help to develop the next generation of manned and unmanned space vehicles that will take over once NASA finally retires the Space Shuttle.

But Wallops is also leading the way in developing low-cost, sub-orbital vehicles - such as sounding rockets, high-altitude balloons, unmanned aircraft and miniature satellites.

But Wallops is also playing a key role in helping to both develop the aerospace industry on Delmarva AND providing key educational and research opportunities for area schools. One of the biggest beneficiaries of this outreach has been the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) - which has partnered with Wallops.

We'll continue with the rest of my tour of the Wallops Flight Facility with NASA Public Affairs Specialist Keith Koehler, which was recorded on April 14th, 2009.

Later in the program, we'll talk with Dan Kuennen, the Executive Director of the Maryland Hawk Corporation - which is a non-profit affiliate of the UMES that's working with the NASA Wallops Flight Facility to develop miniature satellites called CubeSat, as well as other projects planned for the future.
