Brief Synopsis:
Here on Delmarva, NASA's Wallop's Flight Facility (located on Virginia's Eastern Shore), is playing a very important part in NASA's overall vision, by serving as a key center for the launching of small, sub-orbital payloads. The kinds of payloads that are too small for a typical NASA rocket to carry - but which could potentially send satellites to the moon.
And Wallops has been working in partnership with the states of Maryland and Virginia, to further study and experiment with these kinds of missions in order to create a low-cost, commercial spaceflight industry on right here on Delmarva.
Perhaps more importantly, is the fact that the flight facility is also helping to train and inspire an entire generation of students on the Eastern Shore, and throughout the region - through its various educational programs.
Keith Koehler is a Public Affairs Specialist for NASA's Wallops Flight Facility - which is a part of the larger Goddard Space Flight Center, located in Greenbelt, Maryland. In today's edition of Eastern Shore Focus, he'll talk about some of the very exciting programs currently taking place at Wallops - as well as several ambitious goals for its future.
This interview was recorded in July 2007.
