AI&G Art of Architecture Exhibit
The Art Institute & Gallery (AI&G) invites the public to join in the celebration of a ground-breaking exhibit called "The Art of Architecture: From Napkin Sketches to Functional Sculpture". From now to November 21, 2009, this unique "installation art" exhibit showcases the design process for two of Salisbury's most prominent buildings - the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art built in 1992 and James M. Bennett High School which is currently under construction. The exhibit is designed for the enjoyment of adults and children of all ages.

The multi-layered exhibit is a partnership among Davis, Bowen & Friedel, Inc., Becker Morgan Group, and the AI&G to demonstrate the integration of art, humanities, science and technology as architects, engineers and other construction professionals create a building that meets the needs of those who will use it. Project team leader and Chief Curator Mike Wigley of Davis, Bowen & Friedel is assisted by Chris Cullen and Kevin McCoy, also of Davis, Bowen & Friedel. Associate Curators are Jason Pearce, Craig Williams, and Daniele Hall of the Becker Morgan Group.

Ray Vorus, AI&G board member, comments that "sometimes we forget that art is present all around us. AI&G's exhibit reminds us that architects are also artists, who bring to life ideas and images first conceived in their minds and then brought to reality as sculpture that has function as well as beauty." He adds " this exhibit would not have been possible without the professionals who have worked countless hours to give the rest of us the opportunity to see the magic behind this unique process. Salisbury is fortunate to have such creative talent."

The exhibit totally transforms the AI&G exhibit space and is unlike any other previous exhibit. Special structures built inside the gallery will transport visitors through the creative process. Visitors will see first hand the evolution of design techniques during the recent history of architecture, from earlier hand-drawn designs to the current computer-assisted designs.

The exhibit is open from Monday to Friday from 11 AM-3PM also at no charge. AI&G is located on the lower level of the Gallery Building at 212 W. Main St. The entrance to the exhibit will be at the Camden Street door (across from the Library). AI&G welcomes student groups on field trips by advance reservation.
