Candye Kane delights audiences with brash, beautiful, blues songs like "200 Lbs. of Fun" and "Hey Mister (She Was My Baby Last Night)." Her life story is as inspiring as her music. Raised in a dysfunctional family in East L.A., Candye was an unwed mom by age 17, dabbling in the adult film industry. Getting involved in music in the 1980s helped turn her life around. She married, raised two sons (one of whom is a drummer in her band)—and discovered blues divas like Big Maybelle and Bessie Smith, women with colorful and often difficult pasts. Candye Kane found a home in the blues. She honors the bold blues women of the past with both feet firmly planted in the present. Candye Kane uses music as therapy and often writes and chooses material with positive affirmations that leave the audience feeling healed and exhilarated. A show that is part humor, part revival meeting, and part sexuality celebration, she'll deliver a barrelhouse-tongue-in-cheek blues tune or a gospel ballad like "Jesus and Mohammed," encouraging audiences to leave behind religious intolerance. Recently on the mend from cancer surgery that left her, she says, "in stitches in Oceanside," Candye Kane comes to Michigan with a new release, "Coming Out Swingin'."
