For the second concert of their 35th anniversary season, the Ann Arbor Concert Band presents a rare and unique concert experience; The Genius of Shostakovich, performing only works of Dmitri Shostakovich. Thrill to the fanfare and vitality of Festive Overture, the exuberance of Folk Dances, the dark and brooding Prelude in E-flat minor, and the brilliance and majesty of the Finale from Symphony No. 5. The cornerstone of the concert is the premiere performance of the powerful and dynamic First movement from Symphony No. 7 (“The Leningrad”), arranged for band by conductor James Nissen.
