Jazz@37North is proud to present vocalist Ashley Daneman in concert on October 20th from 6-8pm. Based out of Kalamazoo, Mi., Ashley is one of those rare artists that music lovers long to discover. An artist that stands apart from the status quo and creates imaginative, authentic music. As her bio says, Ashley’s music meets at the intersection of jazz and modern folk music. She crafts organic, narrative songs with rich harmonies that the West Michigan Jazz Society describes as “…an uncompromising concoction of subtle and intimate jazz with a touch of hipster singer-songwriter.”
Ashley describes herself as someone who has experienced a life radically changed by God, and who has overcome trauma and mental illness. Her music doesn’t shy away from unanswered questions, contradiction, or spiritual seeking. Her commentary on life and faith, and her stories of redemption and transformation, are vulnerable and transparent and come through loud and clear in her songs as well as her visual art. Ashley says, " I like to bring comfort and hop to people while encouraging them to take care of unfinished business."
As always the concert is free, but free-will donations will be accepted. There are refreshments available after the concert. Local artist Mary Vorves will also have some of her art on display in the narthex.
