Election 2008
For Discussion: Schedule Change Benefits Obama
Because the first day seemed like any other day on the campaign from McCain. He pretty much went where he's gone before. An ordinary day except for packing a couple of grocery bags.
Btw, does he really want to get the image of him bagging groceries in voters' heads? Will he squeeze the Charmin? Perhaps fix a Maytag? (Ixne on the Maytagze, they moved a bunch of jobs abroad from Iowa.)
Granted they'll have to do some business during the convention. McCain has to make an (attempt at) an acceptance speech, and Gov. Palin's speech is much-anticipated. Nice job lowering the expectations. They really had no chance to even meet the success of the DNC show. Obama's party was reliably good, each day getting better. Not at all concerned with expectations rising Like Louisiana water. Obama's expectations are higher than ours. So when was the last time a speech so exceed such high expectations? Any comparison benefits Obama.
So please, cancel as much of the RNC as possible. There will certainly be photo-ops cleaning up after Gustav. Maybe get in early on Hanna. Flex your supposed governing muscle. Ask your VP for help, she's a governor. She'll have to comment at some point.
Perhaps McCain and his GOP will take the first day off so they can get rid of Bush and Cheney's speeches, and then come back the second day. Update: they did.
