ZAP Coming To Kentucky
FRANKFORT, KY
(WEKU) -
ZAP-mobiles are coming to Franklin, Kentucky. That's where the electric vehicle company says it will open a huge manufacturing plant.
Right now, Zero Air Pollution, or ZAP electric vehicles are manufactured in China. But company officials say they will build an 84-million dollar manufacturing facility on 225 acres in Simpson County. Governor Beshear says the plant will employ four thousand people, making an average 20-dollars per hour.
"Kentucky is proud to do its part, by approving performance-based financial incentives worth 48-million dollars, incentives needed to help this project succeed," Beshear said.
The project is a partnership between ZAP and Integrity Automotive of Bullitt County. Earlier this month, Governor Beshear signed an executive order allowing low-speed electric vehicles to operate on some Kentucky roadways. ZAP officials say the move was instrumental in their decision to locate in Kentucky.
