EKU Arts Center Gets Executive Director
(2009-11-20)
(WEKU) -

A major arts venue under construction on the Eastern Kentucky University campus has taken another step forward.

The Center for Performing Arts won't be finished for another year and a half but it has an Executive Director. Katherine Eckstrand of the Ohio Arts Council was introduced Wednesday. Even though the 93,000 square foot facility will be state-of-the-art, Eckstrand says a building is only one part of attracting patrons.

"It's never been my experience that you just build something and people come. It is a lot of hard work to get people to come. Having said that I think that once people do come here, they will thrilled and excited and want to come back," Eckstrand said.

Eckstrand plans to start booking artists soon, and expects to offer a mix of entertainment, from Broadway shows to B.B. King. The curtain goes up on the first act in mid-2011.
