Public Service Commission Presents Storm Report
(2009-11-18)
(Kentucky Public Radio) -

Officials with the Kentucky Public Service Commission yesterday briefed lawmakers on the findings of an investigation into the January ice storm and last September's windstorm.

During a meeting in Louisville, Executive Director Jeff Derouen told legislators there was initial confusion during both events on how many utility customers were without power.

"We recommend that every person who loses power contact their utility inform them that they lost power but only do it once," Derouen said. "They don't go do the front of the line if they call again, and it really just clogs up the phone and prevents the utilities from knowing exactly what the extent of the damages is."

Derouen says the report won't recommend that utility companies bury existing power lines. He says that would cost 217 billion dollars. The 200-page report will be released tomorrow morning.
