Funding for Construction at Avon's Bluegrass Station
LEXINGTON, KY (WEKU) - The Kentucky Legislature quickly approved the sale of four million dollars in bonds. The borrowed money will help build a hanger at the former military facility, Avon's Bluegrass Station complex. Kentucky Adjutant General Edward Tonini says its neighbors could be hired to repair military aircraft.
"If there are enough people with the skills available locally certainly that would be their preference but if there aren't enough skilled people they'll go wherever they need to get people that are skilled in the particular area that they need," said Tonini.
Lexington Mayor Jim Newberry says the new jobs created will have good salaries.
"Jobs that are going to be available there are very high end very technical jobs and I'm excited about the fact that they will be here in the not too distant future, this year," Newberry said.
Newberry says employers at Bluegrass Station have more than 26 hundred workers. He says that means some three and a half million dollars in tax receipts for the city. The new hangar could be completed by the end of the summer.
