Layaway Is Back
Holiday shoppers may benefit this weekend from easy financing. Select stores are again advertising the benefits of layaway and store credit cards.
K-mart, Sears, Marshall, Burlington Coat Factory and some T-J Maxx stores offer layaway this holiday season. Although, layaway plans differ by store, they all require a small service fee. Customers can create a pay schedule for their gifts that last either 30 or 60 days, depending on the store. At Richmond Centre, a shopper from Berea says she won't use layaway.
"I think for when we were first married you know like when you are on a budget, it was something you can buy and put away and know that you are paying towards and it wasn't as hard, you know, on your spending."
Stores like JC Penney, Kohls, Dillards and Belk do not provide layaway services. Instead these retailers offer financing through store credit cards. Customers can charge their purchases and earn store rewards.
