A regional airline that flies out of Owensboro is offering super cheap trips to Florida. Allegiant air is selling one-way tickets to Orlando for $9.99. They hope to help the Owensboro-Daviess County airport reach a passenger level of 10,000 this year.
Then, the airport will receive a million dollars from the Federal Aviation Administration. Airport head Bob Whitmer says the money will go toward capital projects.
To qualify for FAA funds, Whitmer says they'll need to move at least 200 passengers within the next six weeks. The $9.99 flights will be offered through January. The discounted fare does not include taxes and luggage fees.
