Salvation Army Sets Up Early
The Lexington area Salvation Army hopes to raise 400,000 dollars through the annual holiday kettle' program. Bell ringers have sounded their call for donations since the first weekend in November. Salvation Army Major Steven Ashcraft says the reason for the early start is simple.
"In order to reach the goal in order so that we can help those that are in need in our community we have found it necessary to start before thanksgiving in order to raise the amount of money that we do need to provide our services to the community," Ashcraft said.
Major Ashcraft says money raised through kettles supports the Salvation Army's Christmas assistance programs and the emergency shelter.
