Lexington Traffic Unlikely to Improve
(2009-11-10)
(WEKU) -

Road construction will continue to trouble Lexington's commuters for perhaps another year. In preparation for next autumn's World Equestrian Games, Fayette County, the Commonwealth and the University of Kentucky all have projects underway.

Steve Cummins recently advised Urban County Council members to stay focused on that prize.

"We're already three months or so into these projects, so we already have something to look at in the rear view if we want to do that. But more often that not, in traffic engineering, what we try to do is look through the windshield. So looking what's ahead of us, not what's behind us," Cummins said.

Cummins reminded council members it's sometimes necessary to close roads so construction work can stay on schedule. Some council members are frustrated with congested traffic and closed roads. They want a report from the city's road planners on their procedures when mapping out long term transportation projects.
