Central and Eastern Kentucky
EKU Faces UK at Commonwealth Stadium
For the second time in the past three years, Eastern Kentucky University's football Colonels will travel 25 miles up Interstate 75 to take on the University of Kentucky Saturday.
This will be the third meeting between the Colonels and the Cats on the gridiron. UK holds a 2-0 advantage with a 52-7 win in 1998 and 50-10 victory in 2007. Both of those games were played in September. No matter when it falls on the schedule, Eastern head coach Dean Hood knows the matchup presents a tough challenge.
"Turn the film on, you know, and we thought there was something wrong with our overhead projectors. And fast as everybody was moving on the field on offense and defense, not what we've been seeing, breaking down OVC film."
In fact, Hood calls UK a typical SEC team from what he calls the best league in college football; fast and physical. The Colonel coach says he appreciates the opportunity to play Kentucky. Hood says it helps with recruiting and boosts Eastern's athletic budget. Kickoff Saturday is set for 1 pm in Commonwealth Stadium.
