Lyric Theatre Holds FUNraiser Events
Lexington's new Lyric Theatre planning committee is announcing the first in a series of FUNraising events to give people an idea of the kind of entertainment the facility will host when it re-opens next year.
City council member Andrea James says she hopes citizens will appreciate the effort to restore the downtown landmark performance venue.
"We need your help to make sure that programming goes as it needs to, to make sure that this is a viable, vibrant, beacon on this corner of East End. As well as something we can be proud of throughout the entire city of Lexington," James said.
The first FUNraiser event takes place on Saturday November 14th at Buster's Billiards and Backroom on Manchester Street in Lexington.
Lexington's new Lyric Theatre planning committee has announced a series of FUNraising events to benefit the re-opening of the historic downtown performance venue. A benefit concert is scheduled for Saturday November 14th, featuring local musician Gene Woods, and his band, 'The City.'
"When the Lyric Theatre closed more than 50 years ago, it was a leading entertainment center in the African-American community. And it hosted the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, The Temptations, Cab Calloway, and many other greats of the time around the country. It was a phenomenal venue that attracted and brought the jazz greats, rhythm and blues greats, here to Lexington."
