Lextran Introduces Domestic Violence Protection Program
Lexington's mass transit system is offering a new service to families who feel threatened by domestic violence. It's called Ride to Shelter.'
Darlene Thomas is director of the Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program.
"Seek out any LexTran bus, and from there the employees will follow procedure and protocol to ensure that the family and the children get to the domestic violence program safely."
Ride to Shelter starts this Sunday. LexTran General Manager Rocky Burke says those individuals who feel threatened don't have to wait for a bus at a designated stop. He says a bus can be flagged down along any Lexington route.
