H1N1 Vaccines Distributed Unevenly
(2009-10-26)
(Kentucky Public Radio) -

Kentucky health officials say they are pretty much in the same boat as other states when it comes to the amount of available H1N1 vaccines. On Monday, US Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said that supplies from the manufacturer are not currently where officials intended for them to be.

In Kentucky, state epidemiologist Dr. Kraig Humbaugh says he hopes health departments can make do with what they have on hand.

"Other states are in the same position we are in. The challenge is to try to get that vaccine out to the targeted population. At this point, we have more demand from that target population than we do have supply," Humbaugh said.

Meanwhile Secretary Sebelius says she believes everyone who wants the swine flu vaccine will eventually be able to get it. President Obama has declared a national health emergency and US Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky says if necessary, Congress will provide additional money and support.
