Laptops Purchased for Lexington Library
(2009-10-12)
(WEKU) -

A Knight Foundation grant of $82,000 will enable the Lexington Public Library to significantly enhance it's mobile computer program.

The money will purchase 20 laptop computers, their accessories, plus rolling carts. It will also fund the salary of a dedicated trainer.

Library manager of outreach services Ruthie Maslin says this technology can greatly benefit people in search of employment. These days, Maslin says many job applications are filed on-line.

"There's no paper applications. You know, everything is on-line. You fill out the form and submit it, create your resume, you have to attach it, all of those are skills that seem self evident to us, but for people who don't have the computer skills, they're not gonna be able to make that connection," Maslin said.

Maslin says, conceivably, the mobile laptop program could even be used in a public park.
