Keeneland Kicks Off 'Fall Stars' Weekend
(2009-10-09)
(WEKU) -

Opening day at the historic Keeneland racetrack launches what's called the Fall-Stars' weekend. It amounts to a preview of some contenders in next month's 25 million dollar Breeders Cup World Championships.

A new parking strategy will also greet guests this weekend at Keeneland. During the three-week meet, Keeneland President Nick Nicholson says they hope to get race fans into their seats sooner.

"We're gonna try to get them off of Versailles Road as quickly as possible into a parking place, give them a tram service to get them up to their seats and up to the grandstand as quickly as possible, and then repeat the same thing later in the afternoon and get them to their car easier and home easier," Nicholson said.

Keeneland also has a later post time of 2:15 pm. It was set back an hour to make time a later racing day schedule. Today's rainy weather could create some challenges for the track's first Swinging at Sunset' musical performance. It's this evening, following the final race of the day.
