(2009-09-24)
(WEKU) -

October 10th will be packing day at a well-known central Kentucky food bank.

A week from Saturday, about a hundred volunteers will pack some 25,000 meals at God's Pantry in Lexington. The small plastic bags hold rice, soy, vitamins, and dehydrated vegetables. Kim Condreay with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans says one package goes a long way in fighting hunger.

It's enough meals for a child to give them six meals, so we could feed a family yeah we could feed a family with one packet a meal.

The meal packets, according to Thrivent chapter President Charlotte Wong, has all the proteins, minerals, and vitamins required for proper brain development in children. God's Pantry director Marian Guinn says the packets will be distributed through its back pack program for lunches and snacks, and at nearby pantries.
