As the nation builds greener public and private buildings, a Republican lawmaker says the US needs to cut down more trees.
Congressman Geoff Davis says Kentucky hardwood is an environmentally friendly construction material because it's renewable and sustainable.
And, Davis says hardwood is important to Kentucky economy. He says there are more than 100 hardwood businesses in his 4th District alone.
Davis says using Kentucky hardwood will create jobs. He says that's especially important now that unemployment has climbed to 11 percent in the Commonwealth.
