Lexington 'Green Bank' Offers Efficiency Loans
Funds for the upgrades will come from the Green Bank of Kentucky program. It will finance state agencies who want to improve their energy efficiency. The low-interest loans can then be paid back with the energy savings.
With some minor changes to a separate law, House majority floor leader Rocky Adkins says some funds could also go to local governments and schools.
"You know, a lot of energy is used in our school facilities, especially that have been built over the last 50 years, we're trying to go back and renovate," Adkins said.
The low interest loans could also go to Kentucky's colleges and universities. Kentucky Educational Television plans to apply for one point two million dollars. The loan would fund improvements at KET's Lexington complex.
They would include energy efficient lighting and appliances, smart energy temperature controls and a chemical free water treatment system.
