McConnell Speaks at Charity Breakfast
(2009-08-28)
(Kentucky Public Radio) - US Senator Mitch McConnell says the nation's health care system can be improved without a comprehensive overhaul. McConnell told an audience at the Kentucky Farm Bureau Breakfast Congress should concentrate on specific problems within the existing system.

"Because we have the finest health care in the world, we don't want to change that," McConnell said. "The joke in the Senate is where will the Canadians go for quality health care if we do what they do?"

McConnell said Congress should change the tax code to allow individuals to deduct the cost of health insurance on their tax returns. The Republican also wants to crack down on what he calls "junk lawsuits" against doctors and hospitals.
