Ballet Gains Popularity in Lexington
(2009-08-12)
(WEKU) - The largest dance organization in Central Kentucky is growing in a new direction. The Lexington ballet was formed in 1974. Specializing in classical ballet and modern dance, the ballet is coming off a previous season which saw record ticket sales. 8 members of a new company of professional dancers were introduced Tuesday.

18 year-old Kayla Max was born in Texas, came to Kentucky at age two, started dancing at eight and studied at the Lexington ballet.

"I love performing and taking class and like learning new choreography from Mr. D and all the teachers," Max said.

Mr. D is artistic director Luis Dominguez.

He says he gets to work with a group of dancers for longer periods of time. Previously, Dominguez says there was only limited time after school. He hopes he can help dancers improve their technique, create new works and bring old ones back to life.
