Education Commissioner Search Down to Four
(2009-07-02)
(WEKU) - Four candidates are in the running for Kentucky Education Commissioner. A final decision could come as early as next week. Some 80 people applied for the job, which opened after Commissioner Jon Draud resigned in February for health reasons. On Thursday, the State Board of Education whittled the list down to four finalists.

Chair Joe Brothers said a new commissioner could be named at a meeting scheduled for July 8th.

"We're down to decision making time and so we could make the decision. Our plan is to not sign a contract until the 17th," Brothers said.

Brothers says the names of the finalists will be released, in his words, as soon as possible.' He says background checks and candidate evaluations could continue right up until the 17th of July.
