Independence Day Rally at the Capitol
(2009-07-02)
(Kentucky Public Radio) - Several Kentucky groups who believe Americans aren't as independent as they used to be will be rallying this 4th of July on the steps of the State Capitol in Frankfort. Jim Waters with the Bluegrass Institute For Public Policy, is one of the co-organizers of the event billed as a statewide "Tea Party."

"This is a great opportunity for people, on the birthday of our country, to actually be a part of an event that allows them a voice," Waters said. "One of the things that is going to happen at this event Saturday at the capitol, is people will have the chance to speak. We're going to have an open mic. So, people will have an opportunity to express their feelings and their opinions about what's going on and what we need to do in our country and I think we're going to see this all across the nation."

Other scheduled speakers include John Riley of Take Back Kentucky, a gun rights group, retired Army Sergeant MeShorn Daniels, and Brother David Carr of King of Kings Radio, based in Somerset.
