Ashland Mayor Joins League of Cities
(2009-06-19)
(WEKU) - The Mayor of Ashland has been named to a seat on the Kentucky League of Cities' Board of Directors. Tom Kelley says he learned of the appointment Thursday. He says he was asked to serve by Richmond's mayor because no one else from eastern Kentucky was on the panel.

Kelley says the board will likely be looking into some of the league's business practices. The Lexington Herald-Leader recently questioned the organization's spending on travel, meals and salaries for league officials. Kelley says the questions are legitimate since the group is funded by public money from member cities.

Kelley says he's looking forward to reviewing the way the league does its business. However, even while he and others take on that task, Kelley is quick to add the organization's services have been extremely valuable to Kentucky's cities.
