Lextran Board Discusses Fee Reduction
The board has given initial approval to reduce the fee from three dollars to two dollars for those riders living more than three quarters of a mile from a fixed route. Susan Cox is an employment counselor who testified along with some of her clients Tuesday. She says the Wheels service is key in getting them to and from work.
Cox says family members are willing to help out, but they would be forced to quit their own jobs to provide transportation if para-transit was not available or too expensive.
Karen Coffield, another Lexington employment counselor says many of the impacted individuals only receive minimum wage and work about ten hours a week. She says the three dollar fee was too much. © Copyright 2012, WEKU
