Lexington Police Protect Middle School

(WEKU) - Authorities are searching for a Lexington man in connection with the shooting death of a fellow custodian at Leestown Middle School. 27 year old Brian McGuire is accused of killing 38 year old Jose Daniel Donato at the school early Tuesday morning.

A supervisor said there was a 'personality conflict' between the two school employees. McGuire had gone to support services Monday to register a complaint against Donato. Fayette County School Superintendent Stu Silberman says McGuire claimed Donato had displayed a knife at work Friday and asked if he was afraid. Silberman says all activities at Lexington schools are cancelled Wednesday.

"The main thing for us at this point in time is that we give out law enforcement folks an opportunity to put their plan in place and to make sure that we have a presence in each of the buildings where we're gonna have kids. We're hoping and we're thinking that's gonna be possible by Thursday," Silberman said.

Silberman said it appears school officials at the support services building and Leestown school followed all proper protocol and procedures. He says there will be a debriefing of the situation in the days ahead.

Silberman said the supervisor at the middle school said the two men didn't get along very well.

The supervisor said they had some personality conflict, but when that did arise that they would intervene and it would seem that it would resolve and they would move forward at that point.

Silberman said, "A debriefing will occur in the days ahead anytime we have any type of incident, whether it's of this magnitude or not. We always go back in and debrief the situation to see if there are places in our processes that need to be revised to make it stronger we will do that in this case also."
