The developer of downtown Lexington's Centrepointe project says construction will move forward, with or without a major investor onboard.Construction plans, for which an entire block of historic downtown buildings were razed, stalled late last year when a primary overseas investor died without leaving a will. At a Thursday breakfast meeting of the Lexington Forum, developer Dudley Webb said the family of that investor is, at present, still committed to honoring the Centrepointe deal, pending a hearing on the assets and liabilities of the estate.
However, should that funding fall through, Webb says, the project has other options available.
Another concern for city leaders has been whether the downtown building site will in a presentable state in time for the World Equestrian Games next year. Webb says that should construction fail to begin before the games do, he has a plan for that, as well.
Webb says they're still awaiting final word from Europe on funding for Centrepointe. With that secured, Webb says it is his hope construction at the site would begin no later than this fall. © Copyright 2012, WEKU
