Lextran Halts Free Ride Program
(2009-05-14)
(WEKU) - This week Lextran had to pull the plug on its new free ride program, Lextran Launch, due to some unruly passengers. The program was meant to give school-aged
kids the chance to learn about bus safety and mass transportation, but bad conduct by some means the end of the free rides for all. Lextran spokesman Dave Riggins says the bus company tried to make the program work.

Riggins says, "We had extra supervisors riding on the buses to try to address the
situation, Lexington police were involved with us but it just got to a
point where we could not address the inappropriate behavior."

Talks of a transportation fare and ID requirement are in progress, and Riggins says a revised young rider program could be initiated in the future.
