Obama Effigy: Death Threat or Protest?
(2008-10-30)
Democratic presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) speaks during a rally in Charlotte
(WEKU) - Two men have been arrested for hanging an effigy of Democratic Presidential Nominee Barrack Obama at the University of Kentucky. One is identified as a student there. Senior Joe Fisher and Hunter Bush are charged with disorderly conduct, theft, and burglary. Both suspects reportedly stole materials from a frat house. Their case is now in the hands of the Fayette County Attorney. The student is also subject to disciplinary action at UK. University leaders, the City of Lexington and the State of Kentucky quickly condemned the effigy as racist. But a quick survey of radio talkshows and on-line blogs show some people defending the effigy as legitimate political protest. WEKU's Charles Compton reports.
