Polls Finds Obama's Lead in NY Slipping
(2008-09-15)
(wned) - A new poll finds Senator Barack Obama's lead in New York State has fallen to just 5 points, down from 18 points in June.

The Siena Research Institute poll has Obama leading Senator John McCain 46% to 41% among likely voters in the heavily Democratic state.

Siena College's Steve Greenberg says the numbers indicate the race is tight and getting tighter.

"Obama certainly hasn't closed the deal with voters," Greenberg told WNED Albany correspondent Karen Dewitt.

Likely voters believe Obama would do a better job revitalizing the nation's economy, ending the war in Iraq, improving the health care system and enhancing education.

McCain is seen as stronger on fighting terrorism and enhancing America's strength in the world.

The poll of 626 registered voters has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 3.9%.
