RNC: Delegates Head Back to Mich; So Does McCain
The Arizona senator told the enthusiastic crowd he would run the White House with strength, experience, judgment, and backbone.
And he appealed to struggling families who might be watching the speech on TV - mentioning one Michigan couple by name.
"I fight for Bill and Sue Nebe from Farmington Hills, Michigan," said McCain. "They lost their real estate investments in the bad housing market. Bill got a temporary job after he was out of work for seven months. Sue works three jobs to help pay the bills."
McCain highlighted his military record, and promised to lower taxes and expand renewable energy production.
He'll appear in Macomb County with running mate Sarah Palin today.
Chris Roosen from Northville Township says he expects McCain's message will also be popular with a broader audience back home.
"John McCain is a deficit hawk, John McCain has taken on corruption, John McCain has taken on President Bush and the Republican Party when he's needed to," said Roosen.
"His choice of a running mate is out of the box, it's changed the game completely. I think Michigan is gonna love Sarah Palin."
