Veteran CSU official dies
A 1968 graduate of CSU, Mrs. Norman-Turner served as counselor, associate dean, director of CSU West in Dayton, and as director of alumni relations.
"To know Audrey was to love Audrey," said Bootsie Neal, who met Mrs. Norman-Turner in the 1970s, worked with her at CSU West and succeeded her as director when Mrs. Norman-Turner was named alumni relations director. "She had a loving, caring nature, and she was a true educator."
Senior U.S. District Judge Walter Rice, who worked with Mrs. Norman-Turner at the Dayton Dialogue on Race Relations, said Mrs. Norman-Turner was "one of the most wonderful people I've ever known." Even during the last year, when her health was deteriorating, Rice said, "She could still brighten up any room - any room - that she walked into."
She received many community awards, and among the 50 certificates, plaques and other tributes that covered the walls of her CSU office was one that read, "Audrey, You Are CSU's Best Cheerleader." Asked in a 2000 Dayton Daily News article how best to develop and empower female leaders, Mrs. Norman-Turner replied, "Love yourself first. Teach other people how to treat you. Pay your dues. And surround yourself with winners."
In honor of the late Ms. Audrey Norman Turner, Mr. James E. Farmer '67 while accepting a distinguished award at the 36th General Alumni Association Off Campus Conference made a $10,000.00 pledge to CSU to establish a scholarship fund in the name of Audrey Norman Turner.
