Over 3.3 million dollars in federal stimulus funds will further homelessness prevention efforts in Central Ohio.
(2009-09-18)
(WCBE) - As part of the federal Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the Department of Housing and Urban Development is spending 1.5 billion dollars to prevent homelessness and re-house people who are on the street as quickly as possible. Columbus is scheduled to receive $2,642,649. This week city council voted to have the Community Shelter Board spearhead programs to spend the money. Shelter Board director Barbara Poppe tells Alison Holm the money -- along with an anticipated $746,920 to pass through the county -- will preserve some programs already in place -- and save some from the budget axe.
