Energy legislation headed for house floor
The bills were approved unanimously Monday by the House Appropriations and Budget Committee.
One bill would offer a 5 percent tax credit for installing a geothermal heating and cooling system on residential property.
Another bill would offer tax credits to encourage the use of compressed natural gas in vehicles. Credits would be available for installing a CNG delivery station at homes as well as fueling stations available to the public.
House Speaker Chris Benge says the bills are part of his plan to promote alternative energy sources and help relieve the nation's reliance on foreign oil.
Benge says he wants to position the state as a leader in alternative energy.
