Alternative Energy Backers Angry With State Lawmakers

Supporters of solar and wind energy are expressing frustration at the state legislature's lack of action on a state energy plan.

State lawmakers have spent months debating a proposal to require greater use of alternative energy by state electric utilities.

Senate leaders object to legislation already approved by the state house that would increase residential electricity bills to help cover the added cost of an alternative energy requirement.

Renewable energy supporters like Brandon Knight rallied outside the state capitol building today to protest the stalled energy plan.

"Not sure why the Senate is acting the way they are. The House passed pretty decent legislation, all the way back in April. We were actually here when the House passed that legislation," says Knight, "It's very frustrating as citizens, with the confusion. What does it have to be so confusing?"

Renewable energy supporters say they will hold all state lawmakers responsible in November if the legislature fails to pass a state energy plan.
